The Northern Victoria Region stretches right across the north of the state, from the Mallee to the Victorian Alps. Although it is mostly a rural Region, it includes the regional centres of Bendigo, Mildura and Shepparton, and at its southern edge it includes some outer Melbourne suburbs such as Diamond Creek, Mernda and Yarra Junction. Of the eleven lower house seats which make up the Region, the Nationals hold five (Euroa, Mildura, Murray Plains, Ovens Valley and Shepparton), Labor holds four (the two Bendigo seats, Macedon and Yan Yean), and the Liberals two (Benambra and Eildon).
At the 2022 election the Liberal-National Coalition won two seats, Labor won one seat, and Animal Justice and One Nation each won one seat. As a result of the abolition of the group ticket voting system, the Animal Justice MLC Georgie Purcell will be defeated. The most likely result will be Coalition three, Labor one, One Nation one.
No Labor candidates have yet been announced. I am assuming all sitting members are recontesting, unless they have announced they are retiring. The Liberal MLC Wendy Lovell is retiring. She will be succeeded by Steve Brooks. The second Liberal candidate, Amanda Millar, was an MLC 2013-14.
