Macedon was created in 2002, replacing the older seat of Gisborne, created in 1967. Although it is a country seat, most of its voters live in Labor-voting towns like Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and Kyneton, which have been heavily colonised by "tree-changers" from Melbourne. Labor won Gisborne in 1999 and the seat has been fairly secure for Labor since then. Recent members: Tom Reynolds (Liberal) 1979-99, Joanne Duncan (Labor) 1999-2014, Mary-Anne Thomas (Labor) since 2014.
