Eildon was created in 2014, when the seat of Seymour was renamed. It mostly rural but has some outer Melbourne suburbs at its southern end. Like all country seats, it has a very low proportion of people born overseas, of graduates and of high-income households. Labor's Ben Hardman held Seymour from 1999 to 2010, when he was defeated by Cindy McLeish. She has held Eildon since 2014 without too much trouble.
