The North-Eastern Metropolitan Region takes in an expanse of mostly middle-class suburbs running from Epping and Heidelberg in the north-west to Ferntree Gully and Wheelers Hill in the south-east. This area has traditionally been Liberal Party heartland, but at the 2022 election Labor won eight of the eleven Districts that make up the Region.

At the 2022 election the Liberal-National Coalition won two seats, Labor won two seats, and the Greens won one seat. If there is a big swing against Labor, the Liberals could win three seats, leaving Labor and the Greens with one each.

No Labor candidates have yet been announced. I am assuming all sitting members are recontesting, unless they have announced they are retiring. The veteran Labor MLC Shaune Leane is retiring - no replacement has been named. The Liberal MLC Nick McGowan will contest the Assembly seat of Ringwood. He will be succeeded on the Liberal ticket by Deirdre Diamante.

Sitting members:

  • Shaun Leane (Labor): Elected 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022. Retiring 2026
  • Nick McGowan (Liberal): Elected 2022. Retiring 2026
  • Aiv Puglielli (Greens): Elected 2022
  • Sonja Terpstra (Labor): Elected 2018, 2022
  • Richard Welch (Liberal): Appointed 2024

  • McGowan is Shadow Minister for the Environment and Shadow Minister for Fire Rescue Victoria.
Welch is Shadow Minister for Industry, Shadow Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation and Shadow Minister for AI and Digital Economy.
