Mill Park was created in 1992, taking in new suburban development on the northern fringes of Melbourne. It has a high proportion of young families paying off mortgages, and also a large Indian-Australian community. It has always been a reliably Labor seat. Members have been Alex Adrianopoulos 1992-2002 and Lily D'Ambrosio since 2002. A long-serving minister, d'Ambrosio announced her retirement after the resignation of Premier Jacinta Allan.
