Ivanhoe was created in 1945, and until the 1980s it was a fairly reliable Liberal seat, electing a Labor member only in 1952. Since 1982 it has becoming increasingly secure for Labor, and hasn't elected a Liberal since the Kennett landslide of 1992. Recent members: Tony Sheehan (Labor) 1982-85, Vince Heffernan (Liberal) 1985-96, Craig Langdon (Labor) 1996-2010, Anthony Carbines (Labor) since 2010.
