2018 Labor majority over Independent: 08.6%
2021 redistricting: Labor majority over Liberal 22.3%
2022 Labor majority over Greens: 02.0%

Status: Safe Labor versus Liberals, vulnerable to Greens

Pascoe Vale was created in 1955, abolished in 1958, and re-created 1985. It is a fairly affluent area with high l;evels of professionals and graduates. It also has a substantial Islamic community. Until 2022 it was a very safe Labor seat, but at the 2022 election the Greens gave Labor a shock by coming within 2% of winning the seat. This was partly because the 2021 redistricting moved the seat southwards, adding Greens territory in Brunswick and Moreland, while removing Labor-voting Hadfield, Glenroy and Oak Park.

The new member, Anthony Cianflone, will need to work hard to keep this seat in Labor hands. Members, all Labor, have been: Tom Edmunds 1985-88 (previously member for Ascot Vale from 1976), Kelvin Thomson 1988-96 (later a federal MP), Christine Campbell (1994-2014), Lizzie Blandthorn (now in the Legislative Council) 2014-22, Anthony Cianflone frm 2022.
