Point Cook was created at the 2021 redistricting, replacing the abolished seat of Altona. (This was necessary because the suburb of Altona is now in Williamstown.) This is an area of new suburban development with a high proportion of young families paying off mortgages, and also a large Indian-Australian community. It is a pretty reliable Labor seat. At the 2022 election much-touted independent Joe Garra polled 6.9%. Matt Hilakari is the seat's first member.
