Tarneit was created in 2002, and has been held by five Labor members in succession since then. It is a very young seat with a high proportion of couples with childrwen. It is the centre of the fast-growing Indian-Australian community in the outer western suburbs. Members (all Labor): Mary Gillett 2002-06, Tim Pallas 2006-14 (later MP for Warribee), Telmo Languiller 2014-18, Sarah Connolly 2018-22 (now MP for Laverton), Dylan Wight since 2022. The West Party candidate, Andrew Elsbury, is a former Liberal MLC.
