Status: Fairly safe Labor

Sydenham was created in 2014, in the heart of Melbourne's western suburbs. It has a very high proportion of young families paying off mortgages, and a growing Indian-Australian community. The seat has been held by Labor's Natalie Hutchins since its creation. She was previously MP for Keilor from 2010. Like all the western suburbs seats, it is fairly safe for Labor despite a 9.0% swing at the 2022 election. Hutchins is retiring at the 2026 election.
