Sandringham was created in 1955, in one of Melbourne's wealthiest areas. It has high levels of graduates, professionals and high-income households, and no significant ethnic minorities. It has usually been a safe Liberal seat, although Labor won it (on more favourable boundaries than today's) in 1982. Labor came close to winning it again in 2018, but the Liberals recovered in 2022. Recent members: Graham Ihlein (Labor) 1982-85, David Lea (Liberal) 1985-92, Murray Thompson (Liberal) 1992-2018, Brad Rowswell (Liberal) since 2018.
