Rowville was created in 2014, when the seat of Wantirna was renamed. Wanirna in turn replaced Scoresby in 1976: these changes reflected the rapid population growth in the south-eastern suburbs. This is an affluent area with a high proportion of young familes paying off mortgages. Under all its names the seat was always fairly safe for the Liberals, although Labor won Wantirna in 1985. Kim Wells has held all three seats in succession, and is now the longest-serving member of the Assembly. He was Treasurer in the Baillieu government from 2010 to 2013. He will retire in 2026.
