Greenvale was created at the 2021 redistricting, when the seat of Yuroke in Melbourne's fast-growing outer northern suburbs was divided into two seats (the other seat being Kalkallo). It has a high proportion of young families paying off mortgages, and also a large Indian-Australian community. At its creation it was a very safe Labor seat, but a 15% swing at the 2022 election has made it marginal. Iwan Walters, a former teacher, is its first member. (Iwan is a Welsh name.)
