Dandenong was created in 1904, when the area was semi-rural and Dandenong was a country town. It is now the commercial and industrial centre of Melbourne's sprawling south-eastern suburbs, and is heavily multi-cultural and mostly working-class. Labor has held the seat continuously since 1969. At the 2022 election it was Labor's safest seat. Recent members: Rob Jolly (1979-85), Terry Norris (1985-92), John Pandazopoulos (1992-2014), Gabrielle Williams (since 2014).
