Comment:
At the 2022 election, the Coalition won 2.31 quotas, while Labor won 2.23 quotas. This gave both the Coalition and Labor two seats, but was not enough to give the Coalition a third seat. The Greens polled 0.94 quotas, which gave them the fifth seat, although Senator Lidia Thorpe soon left the party. After the distribution of minor party preferences, Ralph Babet of the United Australia Party (who had polled 0.28 quotas) won the sixth seat, defeating Liberal Senator
Greg Mirabella. In 2025 the Coalition will need to improve its vote to secure three seats. If it does not, the last seat will again go to a minor party candidate. David Van was expelled from the Liberal Party in
2023.
