    Division of Tangney

Tangney was created in 1974, in Perth's fast-growing south-eastern suburbs. On its orginal boundaries it was politically marginal, and was won by Labor in 1974 and again in 1983, but successive redistributions cut the seat back to a block of wealthy riverside suburbs and made it safer for the Liberals. It has the high median family income and the high proportion of people in professional and managerial occupations typical of such electorates. It also has the high level of people from the UK seen in all the Perth seats, and is now also attracting immigrants from China.

Daryl Williams won Tangney for the Liberals in 1993, and was Attorney-General in the first Howard government. He was succeeded in 2004 by Dr Dennis Jensen, a South African-born scientist who proved to be an eccentric and outspoken member. Jensen lost his Liberal endorsement in 2007 and again in 2010, but was saved both times by the Liberal Party's State Executive. He was again disendorsed in 2016 but this time there was no intervention.

Ben Morton, who won Tangney in 2016, was WA Liberal Party state director before his election. He was Assistant Minister to the Minister for the Public Service and for Electoral Matters in the Morrison Government. He seemed set for a long career, but was a victim of the strong swing to Labor at the 2022 election, mainly driven by state issues.

Sam Lim, Labor MP for Tangney since 2022, is a Malaysian-born former police officer and 2020 WA Police Officer of the Year. His Liberal opponent in 2025 will be Howard Ong, an IT entrepreneur.
