Laverton was created at the 2021 redistricting, from the western part of the seat of Footscray and the eastern half of the seat of Tarneit. In the heart of the western suburbs, it has a large number of young families with children paying off mortgages, and a large community of Indian immigrants. It is a very safe Labor seat despite a 5.4% swing in 2022. Sarah Connolly is its first member.
