Eastern Victoria Region
The Eastern Victoria Region extends from the Dandenong Ranges all the way to the tip of
East Gippsland. But although it appears to be a largely rural Region, most of its
voters live close to Melbourne. Of the eleven lower house seats that
make up the Region, three are in other outer eastern suburbs (Evelyn, Gembrook and Monbulk),
three are on the Mornington peninsula (Hastings, Mornington and Nepean), and one (Bass) includes
the suburban growth centre of Pakenham. Morwell in the Latrobe Valley is also a largely urban seat.
Only Gippsland East, Gippsland South and Narracan are genuinely rural seats.
At the 2006 and 2010 elections, Eastern Victoria Region elected two Liberals, one National
and two Labor members. In 2014 the Liberals lost a seat to the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers. They
will be hoping to reclaim that seat at this election.
The Liberal member Edward O'Donohue is a former minister and Shadow Minister for Police, Community Safety and
Corrections. Dr Daniel Mulino, elected in 2014 for Labor, has been selected to contest the federal seat
of Fraser. He will replaced on the Labor ticket by former minister Jane Garrett, currently MLA for Brunswick.
