REPUBLIC OF MAURITIUS LEGISLATIVE ELECTION OF 5 MAY 2010 ================================================================== Elections to the National Assembly Source: Mauritius Electoral Commissioner The National Assembly consists of 62 members. Of these, 60 are elected from 20 three-member seats on a non-proportional basis, with each voter casting three votes. Two members are elected from the island of Rodrigues. After a general election, the Electoral Supervisory Commission may nominate up to a maximum of 8 additional members in accordance with section 5 of the First Schedule of the Constitution with a view to correct any imbalance in community representation in Parliament. This system of nominating members is commonly called the best loser system.
