LEGISLATIVE ELECTION OF 2 JUNE 1946

This election was for a Constituent Assembly to draw up a new Italian 
Constitution. No upper house was elected. The election was conducted 
simultaneously with a referendum on the Italian monarchy. As a result of the 
referendum Italy became a Republic on 20 June 1946.
