As a result, members were elected unopposed in 155 seats, while many Awami League candidates faced only token opposition. This greatly reduced turnout. At the 2008 election, 69.2 million votes were cast. Turnout at this election was thus only 22% of turnout in 2008. All the minor parties which won seats were allies of the Awami League.
