VICTORIA ==================================================================== LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE FIFTEENTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED 20 APRIL 1892 ==================================================================== Showing ministerial and parliamentary offices held in the period 20 April 1892 to 20 September 1894 Voting figures are taken from Colin A Hughes and B D Graham, "Voting for the Victoria Legislative Assembly 1890-1964,"ANU Press 1975. This is the first election covered by Hughes and Graham, who give enrolment figures and informal vote figures for every seat. Candidates' given names are taken from "The Argus." Party labels are those given by Hughes and Graham. This election was a great victory for the composite government led by William Shiels, a Liberal, but the depression which followed the 1892 crash undermined his support. The government was defeated on a vote of confidence on 18 January 1893, and was succeeded by a government led by James Patterson, a Conservative. Patterson's government was equally unable to restore Victoria's finances, and was in turn defeated on a vote of confidence on 28 August 1894. Patterson then obtained a dissolution. This was the first election fought by the Labour Party, which won 11 seats.
