VICTORIA ==================================================================== LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE SIXTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED 21 JANUARY TO 20 FEBRUARY 1868 ==================================================================== Showing ministerial and parliamentary offices held in the period 20 February 1868 to 16 March 1871 This election was called when the Legislative Council rejected the McCulloch government's supply bill and other measures. McCulloch's liberals won the election with a large majority, but McCulloch resigned in May over the issue of the grant to former Governor Sir Charles Darling, which the Colonial Office vetoed. A member of the Legislative Council, Charles Sladen, formed a ministry with no parliamentary support. McCulloch soon returned to office with a more radical cabinet, but resigned again in September 1869. John MacPherson formed a short-lived ministry until April 1870, when McCulloch returned again, retaining office until the February-March 1871 elections. Candidates are classed as Ministerialists (Min) or Oppositionists (Opp), according to a list published in "The Age" on 21 February 1868.
