TASMANIA ======================================================================== HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ======================================================================== THE FORTY-EIGHTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED 15 MARCH 2014 ======================================================================== The Forty-Eighth Parliament was opened on 6 May 2014 and was dissolved on 28 January 2018. Sources ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Voting figures are from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission. Biographies of elected members are from the Tasmanian Parliament website. Summary ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Will Hodgman led the Liberal Party to a convincing victory at this election, ending 16 years of Labor government. The electorate punished both Labor and the Greens for their dysfunctional coalition government of the previous four years. The Liberals won a majority of the primary vote and 15 seats, winning three seats from Labor and two seats from the Greens. Labor was reduced to seven seats, managing two quotas only in Denison and Lyons. Hodgman polled 35% of the vote in Franklin. Lara Giddings resigned as Labor leader immediately after the election, and was succeeded by Bryan Green. Green's leadership was dogged by poor opinion polls and was undermined by the party's dominant left wing. In March 2017 he abruptly resigned, and was succeeded by Rebecca White. Nick McKim resigned as Greens leader in August 2015 when he was chosen to succeed Christine Milne in the Senate. He was succeeded by Cassie O'Connor.
