TASMANIA ======================================================================== HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ======================================================================== THE FORTY-SECOND PARLIAMENT ELECTED 2 FEBRUARY 1992 ======================================================================== The Forty-Second Parliament was opened on 14 April 1992 and was dissolved on 25 January 1996 Sources ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Voting figures are taken from the "Report on Parliamemtary Elections", 1994, by David Farrell, Chief Electoral Officer. Biographies of elected members are from the Tasmanian Parliament website. There are several places in this section where the numbers don't add up, despite my best efforts to make them do so. This may be due to errors in the official returns or to my poor arithmetic, I can't tell. Summary ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ray Groom led the Liberals back into office at this election, ending Tasmania's three years of minority Labor-Greens government. The Labor vote fell again, to below 30%, costing Labor two seats. The Liberals polled a clear majority of the vote and won majority government with 19 seats: they won five seats in Braddon, where Labor had won five seats in 1972. The Greens vote fell, but they retained their five seats. The former Premier Harry Holgate lost his seat. Michael Field retained the Labor leadership until the 1996 election.
