QUEENSLAND ==================================================================== LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE FIFTY-EIGHTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED 26 OCTOBER 2024 ==================================================================== The Fifty-Eighth Parliament was opened on 26 November 2024. Sources -------------------------------------------------------------------- Election Commission of Queensland, Queensland Parliament website. Biographical information as available in November 2024. Summary -------------------------------------------------------------------- David Crisafulli led the Liberal National Party to a comfortbale win at this election, ending nine years of Labor government. Most of the LNP gains were in the regional seats, where Labor was almost wiped out. The LNP gains included Mackay and Rockhampton, which Labor had held for more than a century. Labor's vote held up much better in Brisbane, where only one seat (Capalaba) changed hands. Labor lost the gains it had made in 2020, except Bundaberg. The LNP won 53 seats, a large but not overwhelming majority. Labor retained 36 seats, a better result than opinion polls earlier in the year had predicted. On the basis of this Steven Miles was re-elected unopposed as Labor leader. Both the Greens and One Nation slightly improved their vote share, but One Nation lost its only seat and the Greens lost one of their two seats. Labor regained South Brisbane from the Greens, although this was entirely because the LNP shifted its preferences from the Greens to Labor. The Katter party retained its three seats.
