Hall had been elected in 1975 as a candidate of the Liberal Movement LM), although he had joined the Liberal Party in 1976. In 1977 the majority of LM members joined the Australian Democrats (AD). The South Australian Parliament therefore appointed an AD nominee to Hall's vacancy. 2. Haines did not contest the 1977 elections. Her term expired 30 June 1978.
