Term expired 1961. Appointed 1962 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Buttfield had been elected in 1955 to a term ending 30 June 1962. But since she was the sixth-elected senator in 1961, she was deemed to have been elected to fill the casual vacancy caused by Rex Pearson's death. She therefore resigned her existing place on 8 December 1961 to take up this term, which began on 9 December. Davidson was appointed to replace her for the term expiring 30 June 1962. Davidson's term expired on 30 June 1962. President Queensland ALP 1959-60. -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1953 required casual vacancies to be filled at the next election. The election of 30 November 1963 was called early and was thus for the House of Representatives only.
