Best, Broad and Ceabrook campaigned as "the Tasmanian group". The group was seen as unofficial Country Party candidates, which they denied (Burnie Advocate, 16 August 1934). 2. Best was Tas MHA for Wilmot 1928-31, Tas MLC for Meander 1934-43. 3. Ceabrook was MHR for Franklin 1922-28. He then spelled his name Seabrook. In July 1934 he changed his name by deed poll to Ceabrook. The order of groups on the ballot paper was determined at this time by assigning numerical values to the initials of candidates' surnames. By selecting candidates with surnames beginning with B and C, his group was assured of first place and thus of the "donkey vote" (The Sun, 25 July 1934). 4. Howroyd was Tas MHA for Bass 1937-50, Denison 1958-59. 5. Lane was Tas MHA for Darwin 1926-28, 1937-46. 6. McFie was Tas MHA for Darwin 1925-34, 1941-48. 7. Palamountain was Tas MHA for Wilmot 1926-28. 8. Plummer was Tas MHA for Franklin 1937-41. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1st vacancy, 2nd count: Daft's 786 votes distributed
