November 1925. Cox's, Duncan's and Massy-Greene's terms began 1 July 1926. Cox, Duncan and Massy- Greene elected for a term ending 30 June 1932. Thomas and Abbott elected for a term ending 30 June 1929 (remainders of terms of McDougall and Millen). Continuing senator (term to end 30 June 1929): John GRANT (ALP). -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Massy-Greene's term ended and Abbott's term began on 14 November 1925 because Massy-Greene had been appointed to the remainder of Senator Hon Edward Millen's term in 1923. Since Millen's term was technically unexpired, Abbott was held to have replaced Massy-Greene from the date of the election. Massy-Greene was therefore not a Senator between 14 November 1925 and 1 July 1926. 2. Senator William Gibbs's term ended and Thomas's term began on 14 November 1926 because Gibbs had been appointed in 1925 to replace Senator John Power, who had been appointed to the remainder of Senator Allan McDougall's term in 1921. Since McDougall's term was technically unexpired, Thomas was held to have replaced Gibbs from the date of the election. Gibbs did not contest the 1925 election. -------------------------------------------------------------------- > Percy Phipps Abbott (1869-1940): Elected 1925 Born: 14 May 1869, Hobart.
